Peranakan
Although Batik was well established in Java in the 18th century, a community of Peranakan Chinese settlers in Pekalongan produced a distinctive type of batik in the late 19th century, which was a break from the somber and more formal color schemes and motifs. With indo-european influences and relatively free designs, they were the Nyonya's (Peranakan Chinese women) favorite. This one featuring a peacock, a symbol of integrity and natural beauty.
